Award Season is still ago. The SAGs have been handed out now & so have a few more, we are hurtling to the BAFTAS & the OSCARS & im loving every second, that being said i’ve still not seen the Irishman on Netflix. Its 3h30 have i got the patience to do that, Endgame at 3h2min is long enough. Oh well lets see. This film is up for some acting awards in both so its well worth a watch & as someone who sees herself as a strong independent woman i hope it resonates.

I am the only person in screen 2 whoop, which means i dont have to fight anyone for my seat YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSs mini victory for Popcorn kind get it. Over all about 30 people were in the screen i think by the time the film started. Mainly older women than myself & a couple of much older couples, but i reckon i was the youngest in there. Obviously all the teenagers are saving their money to see Robbie in Birds of Prey instead.

Trailers we had Dark Water ( which looks so disturbing & good) Birds of Prey (obviously) Mulan (which im not sure how i feel if there’s to be no Mushu) Beautiful Day (Yes) & Queen & Slim (yes). No Bond today, the odeon listened to me yayayayayayayayayy.

& then the film started… Im feeling really good now about being able to speak my mind & say what i want & be strong & independent. This film does go for it.

Theron is just amazing in this film. It really is just a breath of fresh air to have such an open but honest & strong performance in this kinda film, which at no point feels false or pushed to much. She absolutely nails it & is deserving of her nominations in the coming weeks for it. Just a mesmerising performance. You do feel like you are going through the should i shouldnt i with her at all times.

One of the best things shes does in the film, & that a few others too ( & its quite early so its not a spoiler) is the fourth wall, & here it is done correctly (Cats take notes). Its not all the time but because its a film about news & reporters who always just talk to you straight, its really effective & works well.

Id also like to praise Robbie for her performance in this. She has some of the most awkward moment in the film to be in as well which are properly cringy & you just sit there going oh god no not her & you really do feel for her, & completely understand why she is doing what shes doing. & then because shes so oh im normal it does make you think well what would i do in that situation. Thats good acting.

Kidman was meh if im honest. She was the only one out of the main three that was a little lackluster, but im sure if the other two werent so on there game for this she would have looked okay against anyone else.

I like films where you think you know what goes on in the background of places we all know & then you get a much more in depth look. Its comforting if its similar to what you expect but also kinda like oh really this happens in these kinds places. Yes i know its all dramatised & made more glamours or ugly, depending on what your tone it, but its still good.

Also some of the name drops & real life bits edited into the film were good. & some of the people who played other real people, were amazing. Like i was sitting there looking at someone at the end going, it is that person right? It wasnt but i was so convinced i thought it might have been. When they had to edit what really happened with the actors in the film for continuity was done seamlessly & they should be applauded for it.

I love the fact that this film is about getting peoples voices hear & really is pro me too & that we cant tolerate it anymore. I love the fact it does this & just isnt ashamed to argue with itself when someone goes really in it. That being said… I know were focusing on these three women, but a few more bits regarding witnesses or a few more stories regarding what really happened needed to be included to make this as much as a shock to the system as it wanted to do. I just needed a few more punches to properly get its point across & when you think its going to do it, it goes nah were stopping this now.

Basically this film ironically needs a bigger set of balls to tell its story. If it did it would be up for best film in a lot of scattergories this year, as opposed to just acting ones. Its a really important film that i think people should seek out if you get the opportunity to do so. Some tremendous acting & a good real life story. It just needs a little more conviction to make it hit hard on the right notes.
