2 films in 2 days… anyone would think that theres a lot of films out this week & not enough time to watch them all. This is so much the case that im not doing my follow up film tomorrow & then we have our film quiz on thursday… cue watching too many Ben Mendelsohn films line that i’ve been shouting (not that theres a problem with that at all no).
Screen 8 is the smallest at my odeon but i’d say it was about 40% full. Mainly full of groups of girls around my age all looking forward to a girly film which heart passion & jokes.
Trailers we had a Charlize Theron film about her being vice president, a film called little, & there were 2 others as well i think one of them may have been Aladdin. That doesnt really fit into the kind of genre for trailers im looking for but it was something a bit different to what i expected.
& then the film started… hmmm mixed bag if im honest.
I never saw What Women Want so cant tell you how true it was to the original or if it was made in the same manner, so thats my bad & not the films fault. It is a very interesting concept though it really is to be able to read people minds. I mean if someone could read my mind, they would run away from me as quick as they could (probably shouldn’t have over shared that oh well). But its true people minds & brains wonder all over the place, yet the majority of what she heard was just generic for the films purpose. No one was wondering if unicorns could beat a giraffe in a fight or how many knees to bees have (36 by the way). It was all stuff to do with what was going on. & she also wasnt very good at hiding her skill either. Come on love your meant to the smart one here dont be so over obvious. That being said the wedding scene was epic.
There were some brilliant put downs & comeuppances of people in this films & a few lines that were just pure movie gold, be it funny or romantic or just all round good ones. I did once almost spit my almond vanilla latte out it was so funny. All im going to say in Wakkanda Forever.
Is it Hollywood policy to have a gay friend or assistant for a strong independent woman? Its happening alot at the moment. I mean he was the best character in the entire film, but you know its becoming a little bit predictable.
The film was a let down though for one main obvious reason. It was meant to empower or inspire or at least be positive for Women… & i left going nah it wasnt. It lacked any femininity & girlyness & it was still power driven. Why did it have to take all of that for her to realise she was a horrible person. Once again it was a film advertised for women to go & watch but it actually was a film for men & how they want women to over power them in a way that just degrades us more i think. It lacked female spirit.
Overall it was okay. I’ve seen funnier & more romantic films that this, but its overall message got lost, especially when you have Captain Marvel flying the flag for female empowerment. Its the kind of film that when its on sky cinema in a years time & your back from the pub on a friday night you will put on & go yea that was average, but it will still make you laugh.
